Home insurance is something that all home owners should have in order to protect against accidental damage and problems with their property. Buildings insurance covers everything from weather damage to destruction or loss arising from forced entry and vandalism. If your home has a garage, then this is usually covered under your home insurance policy, but you should double check this before agreeing to any premiums you pay to cover your home.
Many of our customers here at Evander are referred to us through home insurers as we are the preferred contractor for the majority of insurers in the UK. This means that if you need to make a claim, it’s likely that we will be the company to respond and help you with any repairs or replacements you may need.
When To Make A Claim
Your garage door may have been damaged by a vehicle or by forced entry, or the internal mechanism may have given up the ghost, making it very difficult to open and close properly. Evander can repair and replace your garage door, making it useable once again. If you’re not covered under your home insurance for certain types of garage door damage, we can still survey for free and give you a no obligation quote for repairs or replacement, helping you to get back to normal with as little hassle as possible.
Things To Consider
Extra-Secure Garage Doors
All of our doors have a strong basic level of security, with British Standard locks and proper fitting techniques. However, some will want to boost the security of their new door after being broken into, so we also offer special Secured by Design (SBD) garage doors which are manufactured to include additional security features such as stronger locking systems. Our Guardian range consists of three Garador garage door designs which have been given these extra features.
If Your Door Is Covered By Insurance…
If you need to make a claim on your home insurance for your garage door, you should record the damage as much as possible once you have phoned your insurer. Take photographs from different angles and in good light so that it’s as easy as possible for them to deal with your claim. If you’ve been broken into and your garage door has been damaged in that way, then always call the police in the first instance. This not only ensures your safety but also means you’ll have a recorded crime number to use as part of your claim.
Of course, if your door is damaged through a fault with the panel itself or with the internal mechanism, you should always check the warranty to make sure you’re not covered that way first. If you have any questions regarding insurance claims or how best to proceed when looking into getting a new garage door, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us on 0345 145 0130 or via our contact form.
