Scotland is currently being battered by hurricane-force winds which has resulted in the disruption of travel and has affected power across a huge area. According to news sources, around 75,000 homes are without power and winds have reached over 110mph in some areas, mostly in northern and western Scotland. The high winds have caused a lot of damage overnight and are expected, unfortunately, to continue into Saturday.
When the weather is particularly bad like this, we see a surge in demand here at Evander. We work with most of the top insurance companies in the UK, so when a customer calls their insurance company to explain damage has been sustained, it’s Evander who are asked to repair or ‘make safe’ the homes affected. For those who do not have home insurance (this is always recommended if you own a property), we also offer a direct service – you don’t have to be referred by an insurance company to take advantage of our services.
High winds can cause all sorts of damage to homes and businesses, from structural damage like signs or fascias being ripped away to debris and fallen trees smashing window and door glass. Sustaining damage like this can be frustrating, especially if it leaves your home vulnerable. So what should you do if your home needs repairing?
If you have a home insurance policy, then you should contact them as soon as you know you need to make a claim. If you’re able to, take photos of the damage (try to make them as well-lit as possible) and make a comprehensive list of all the damage sustained. If you are renting your home, the same rules apply, but you’ll need to get in touch with your landlord or letting agency to notify them, as they’ll have to deal with the insurance company directly.
If you don’t have home insurance and you own the home you live in, then we suggest you get in touch with us for a quote. We can conduct a free survey of the damage and offer you a comprehensive quote with no obligation, hopefully getting you back on track in no time. Where the security of your home is compromised, we can perform an emergency board-up so that your home is not left vulnerable and schedule the full repair then and there.
If you’d like to book your free survey or simply talk with one of our advisors about the options available then feel free to give us a call on 0345 145 0130. Alternatively you can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or use the contact form on our website and we will get back to you as quickly as possible.
